Basic Pie Chart in Google Sheets

The columns in a spreadsheet can be used to create basic pie charts. Pie charts work best with information in single columns because all the information in a column is related and part of a whole.

I have a spreadsheet with information collected from a technology survey given to teachers. One of the questions asks teachers about the type of Internet access they have at home. We can gather their responses into a pie chart. Click once on the column header to select all the cells in the column.

Click the chart icon in the button bar.

Google Sheets will gather the data and select a chart type based on the selected column. Google Sheets correctly created a pie chart for us.

The Chart Editor will open in a panel on the right side. This panel can be used to change the chart type if a pie chart was not created with the column data.
